Yesterday Mary Kate McDevitt launched a new class on Skillshare called ‘Hand-Lettering Workshop: Illustrating with Lettering’. Mary Kate has a very large portfolio of lettering work to her name, a lot of is colourful and there is inspiration to be found all across her website Mary Kate McDevitt.
I’m only just starting to familiarise myself with Mary Kate and her work. So I’ve yet to enrol in any of her classes on Skillshare, but will definitely be enrolling in one as soon as I can. I saw that this new class was available though, and wanted to share it with you, as it looks like there is some fun to be had by joining. It also looks like it is designed for hand lettering beginners. So that’s helpful for us that are new to lettering.
The class takes you through the process of sketching lettering by exploring three different areas. The areas are illustrations alongside typography, letters taking on the form of objects and subtle motifs throughout letterforms.
I recommend viewing the class introduction video just below. Mary Kate gives a much more detailed explanation of what you learn in the class than I have.
This course does at the moment require a premium Skillshare site membership to enrol. I’m not linked with Skillshare, I just recommend their courses as I think they will be helpful.
You can enrol in the class by using the following link ‘Hand-Lettering Workshop: Illustrating with Lettering’.
I’ve also just learned that Mary Kate has a couple of lettering books out too, so I’ll be keeping an eye out for those.
