There are now a number of lettering books out there in the world. There are however a few gems, and a few that stand out as helpful for those learning hand lettering, or for those wishing to further improve their skills. The aim of Lettering Tutorial Book Club is to help introduce you to new lettering books, from different categories, that can aid you on your lettering journey. Also to highlight significant features of chosen books, and to provide information on where you can get hold of them from.
I have a small collection of lettering books that is growing steadily. So there are a couple of books I will write about and share with you over the coming weeks as part of book club. I don’t want Lettering Tutorial Book Club to be just about my recommendations, I’d really like for you to get involved. That’s why it’s called ‘book club’, so you can join in too!
If there is a lettering book that you’ve fallen in love with, or a book that’s made a difference to the way you letter. Be it on brush lettering, calligraphy, hand lettering, sign painting, penmanship or anything else lettering related. Please feel free to share your book with book club. The best way to do this is write a a little about your book, including the title of your book, and why you’ve recommended it. Then send your recommendation to using the button in the bottom right corner. I’ll review it, and if all is good your recommendation will get featured on Lettering Tutorial! Pretty cool eh?! Please be as detailed as possible about why you’ve recommended your chosen book, so it will be beneficial to other readers.
Hand lettering has been around for thousands of years. Although there are a fantastic amount of resources online for learning lettering nowadays, books can still be a great resource too. There are books around that might have first been published thirty or forty years ago. There are also books around written by very skilled and experienced letterers, and some by those quite new to lettering. Despite how old the books are, or how experienced the author, they can all contain helpful information. So lets get talking about books, and sharing our favourite lettering books!
