Join hand lettering artist Mary Kate McDevitt in a challenge. Skillshare have announced a July hand lettering challenge starting from the 9th.
The challenge involves enrolling in two of Mary Kate McDevitts Skillshare classes, ‘The First Steps of Hand-Lettering: Concept to Sketch’, and ‘The Final Steps of Hand-Lettering: Color & Texture’.
If you have been struggling to motivate yourself to practice your hand lettering regularly, then this challenge could be a perfect opportunity for you. Once enrolled, every couple of days Skillshare will send you an email to guide you into taking the next relevant steps for the classes. This may give you the extra push you need to letter more often and be accountable for your practice.
As part of the challenge, Mary Kate will also be hosting a live ‘Ask Me Anything’ session, where you can ask any questions you have about lettering and the class content. The ‘Ask Me Anything’ session is scheduled for Thursday 23rd July at 3pm (EST) and lasts an hour. It will be hosted through Google Hangouts. I’ve never participated in anything through Google Hangouts before, so I’m not sure if you can use it as a guest, or whether you will need a Google account to participate. This is something to look in to though, as you don’t want to turn up online for the session at 3pm, only to find you need to set up an account and miss some of the questions and answers.
The 31st of July is the deadline for the challenge to be completed, at which point you need to have uploaded your class project work for both classes to Skillshare.
You do need a premium membership for Skillshare to participate in the challenge, which will cost you $10 per month for however long you want to stay subscribed. Even if you just subscribe for a month though, and just complete the July hand lettering challenge I believe you will get a lot of value. Along with some useful skills that will take you further on your hand lettering journey!
