Shauna Lynn Panczyszyn and Dustin Lee of the RetroSupply Co have collaborated to bring you an awesome hand lettering toolkit.
The hand lettering toolkit comes in two different options. There’s the ‘Premium Pack’ which includes a lot and I mean a lot of different digital brushes which you can use in an application like Adobe Photoshop, plus some other great bonuses. The second option is the ‘Freebie Pack: Beginners Sketch & Ink Pack’, which gives you the opportunity to try out a few of the digital brushes from the Premium Pack.
Premium Pack
The types of brushes you get as part of the Premium Pack include pencils, markers, pens and textures, and they’re all tools that Shauna Lynn Panczyszyn uses within her own lettering work for both personal projects and client projects.
In addition to the brushes you get a few bonuses too including a ‘Lettering Cheatsheet’ which contains ideas and tricks which you can explore in your own lettering. Some Photoshop files which you can study to see exactly how Shauna Lynn works, and on top of that six professional hand lettering time lapse videos which will give you a great insight into the process of a lettering artist.
At present the Premium pack is available from Creative Market and is at a discounted price of $29. The discounted price will only be available until 16th June 2016.
Freebie Pack
The Freebie Pack includes six digital brushes which include pencils, pencil shaders, and an ink pen. There’s also a really helpful and quick video tutorial that Dustin Lee has put together with Shauna, to show you how to use all of the brushes included in the Freebie Pack.
On the RetroSupply Co blog you can find the video tutorial broken down into written steps, which makes for easy reference if you want to work your way through the tutorial whilst you’re multitasking with something like Photoshop.
If you’ve been a little apprehensive about making your lettering work digital I think either of these packs can help to give you the confidence to start digitizing your lettering, and can help you to develop your own skills. Check them out, if you think they’re as awesome as I do download them and have fun!
